I've switch to shaved down carbon fiber rods for rigging and posts on my models. Advantage is it never sags. It can be cut extremely thin (hair thickness) without losing it's strength. Even when bent almost in half it will spring back completely straight. Downside is it's black, and hard to keep a constant diameter when slicing it. There's a photo of me slicing a rod on my USS Onondega build thread.
