Well its more complicated:
Su 20 -- export version of su17
Su 22 -- I am not sure if it ever flew with Russian Air Force
Su 24 -- A bomber, with Russian Air Force
Su 26 -- A civilian aerobatic plane
Su 28 -- A civilian aerobatic plane
Su 30 -- Export of Su27
Su 32 -- Side by side carrier version of a strike aircraft for the Navy
Su 34 -- The new bomber (strike is more appropriate) for Russian Air Force
So I guess the indian plane could be named either as Su 40! or Su 42, or as you say, as none of the above and get an indian designation...we shall see.
