I prefer smaller scales - I'm really enjoying the 1/43rd scale armored cars from allfrompaper, and am working on my 3rd one now. That being said, it's easy to reduce at printing down to whatever scale is desired, so if your design is in a larger scale than the modeler prefers, no biggie. It sounds like you'll be packing a lot of detail into the kit, and if some of the detail parts wind up too small to work with (or even see), in a smaller scale - well, that's the price of miniaturization. 1/12 sounds like a good bet to me.
