Well, Now It's My Turn To Ask For Prayers...

Hey, Ya'll-

I'm one of those types that finds it hard to ask for help, so please bear with me (especially while I vent...)

I'm asking for prayers for my 79-year old mother- This morning, she had sever abdominal cramping, diarrhea, and blood. I called my sister, who came over and in turn called the ambulance (I was outside, shoveling a path to either get the van out or allow the paramedics in).

After getting her to the hospital (and pain meds and IV to rehydrate her), my mom's color and condition were noticeably improved. The doctors have decided that she has colitis, but don't know what is causing it. They are doubting intestinal blockage, so that's a good sign. They are saying she will probably be in the hospital 2-3 days minimum while they run tests, etc.

Now for the vent/rant:

I went to my employer to see what I need to do as far as time off to help my mom (possibly FMLA). I work for a large company that has outsourced almost every dad-blamed thing imaginable. The manager I talked to gave me a toll-free number saying "they are available 24/7" (I finally got home from the hospital and my employer after 11PM tonight).

Called the number given, and went through phone menu you-know-what only to get another number I had to call. Person at that number couldn't help, and "advised" me to call back Monday after 8AM (Sorry, son. We're only here to answer the phones so we can claim to offer 24-hour service). 'Fraid I wasn't too pleasant to them right then...

Thanks a lot, corporate.

I don't want to end this on a sour note, so I'll share this: There are some fantastic people out there. When my sister and I went back to the house to get some of my mom's things, one of the neighbors had completely finished clearing the driveway for us (and all of the sidewalks too). That made me think of all the kindness and support I've witnessed here (and been able to participate in a time or two). I have always felt honored when others have shared their burdens with me and asked for help; I hope you all feel the same way when I return the favor (so to speak).

Please pray that things go well for my mother (and that I can keep from being a jacka**- Obviously my nerves are a bit shot right now).

Thanks for the shoulder, ya'll.
