I took the liberty of running your big_boy_rocket (40mb) and the tin_rocket_toy (37mb) through pdf-xchange viewer to create jpgs, compressed the jpgs through photoresizer, and ended up with under 500kb per page for what seems to me comparable quality print images. In jpg form the big_boy is 4mb and the tin_rocket is 1.5mb. combining the jpgs into a single pdf yielded 8.3mb and 3.3mb respectively. If you send me your email, I'll send you the jpgs/pdf for your review.
