Here is a design build I did for the Brooke 7" swivel mounted gun on the Front Casement of the CSS Virginia, I did the 3D design work in Sketchup 8 and then proceeded to make a cutaway of sorts with the Brooke mounted on the Gun Deck in it's swivel mount with the blocks and tackle. This cutaway also took in one Anchor bit and one of the Hawser holes. The front casement was 12 inches of rafter pine, then a 5" layer of pine , then a 4 inch layer of Oak, followed by two layers of Iron. 25" inches in all and then set to a 36 degree angle to help deflect the incoming cannonballs. This is all done in 1:32 scale. Fits nicely on 10" x 12" display.

This all came about because I am working on a full hull model of the Ironclad, and needed to test build some areas to verify the look.
