F-8e crusader - pins story
The first F-8U to enter carrier service was the dash 1 in 1957.
During catapult launching it happens that the crusader had a roll
stability problems that in some severe cases caused the plane to
roll badly to one side while loosing height and then crashed into the ocean
water while taking the pilot with him.....
The remedy to this disturbing issue was the installing of two big pins in the
F8U-2 below the rear part that gave the plane more roll stability.
