Boy, have I got news for you!
Anna Maria was not a fluit, but a hag-boat. I recently heard that from the lady who did the research on the ship for years.
Is that catastrophical? No. A hag-boat was sort of a fluit, but with a wider aft upper-works. The officer's cabin, which used to be narrow on the fluit, was widened by adding a transom, on which the flat counter rested. Witsen writes that a hag-boat was partly a fluit, partly a pinas. It had a wider taffrail and was more adorned with carvings than the simple fluit.
Don't go into much depth for the carvings though. Keep remembering that these vessels were work horses. They were mistreated, fagged out and worn after a few years. So whatever you make out of it, don't let it shine like a new penny.
I wish you good luck with the build and you can be sure I will be following your progress with deep interest.
