Then you must go to the Udvar-Hazy Center, So called annex to the downtown Air and Space. The main collection of aircraft is now at the Udvar-Hazy Center. Including important military aircraft and bits. Downtown is a lot of early man in space stuff. As well as interactive displays. And some jaw droppers. The shuttle is at the Udvar-Hazy Center and you can get close enough that it is tantalizingly just out of reach. Space Shuttle Discovery, Enola Gay, Concorde, SR-71 Blackbird, Boeing Stratoliner are just the bigger aircraft. Lots of on line info as to what is found in both locations. Enola Gay is the most beautiful aircraft in the holdings. That beautiful airplane will have you thinking, a lot.

Take a look at a map while you are planning. The IPMC is in Sterling which is not far from the Udvar-Hazy Center. Natural history is down town. Metro is your friend and the various museum sites will give Metro information. Note open and close times for the various museums since this is off season. Metro is your friend even if you have your own wheels. Parking a car can be fun and provide opportunities for practicing those special four letter words. Although you are planning for off season there really isn't any off season for parking spaces down town.
