What needs to be done is put in place a rule and requirement that all of the boats in the competition be built exactly the same with no deviations from the plans or materials used in the construction. Have an international jury to approve the plans so that a boat won't be required that excessively favours the Cup holder location; and inspect the boats during all phases of construction and inspect the boats during all phases of competition to insure no changes are made.
That way the best
sailors will be the reason a team wins, not because a team has some new technology that is just within the rules but that no one else has thus giving them an advantage due to technology. May the best sailors win.
It would also be great if they could find some island to race around, you know, like the Isle of Wight. Maybe then they won't change the mark location when the challenger is so far ahead of the defender that the result is inevitable.
