Looking great!
This aircraft has some beautiful lines. And it is always a pleasure to see someone building it.
Don: I believe it is the latter you said. Probably Flymodel got the tail number wrong, or relied on the kind of incomplete and sometimes contradictory information of the old documentation. Or just didn't care at all. It is not the first time that happens. I remember their F-15C has the serial number of the first F-15A. And there may be other similar cases. (edit: just checked my copy of the Flymodel B-25 Mitchell and it also has an incorrect tail number).
