Designed by a sculptor. The book was designed and drawn by a professional model builder. Pterry himself built paper models in his early years.
Although it has been a year since I finished the kit, I can't recall any problems during the construction relative to the design and instructions. I only felt the need to be creative by laminating some of the large surfaces onto foam core. As you can see from Seascapes photos there are domes on several of the buildings. That's a shape that doesn't lend to paper modeling. The illustrator helped by making the joints part of the aesthetic. And by including optional strips of matching material for "flashing" the seams.
