Tachi build

I've encountered very few models I wanted to build more than once, but Michael Grosberg's excellent Rocinante/Tachi is one of them. It's a ship from the sci-fi show "The Expanse."

A brief bit of history for those unfamiliar with the show or the books by James S.A. Corey upon which the show is based: The Tachi is a Corvette-class fast attack ship operated by the Martian Congressional Republic Navy (MCRN). It was berthed on the Donnager as a fleet escort vessel, and when that ship came under attack by unknown ships, Jim Holden and his crew escape in the Tachi, which they rechristen Rocinante.

Michael first offered the Rocinante, in 1/100th scale. When he repainted it as the Tachi, I figured it would be cool to build it, but since I am short of display space, I shrunk the ship to 1/200th scale. Because Michael did an excellent job of engineering the ship's complex shapes, it goes together just as easily in the smaller scale, although my aging eyes were glad when I was done.

I added some detail to the nozzle for the Epstein Drive, added some panels as appliqué detail, added handholds and other small bits.

One note: There are some cool-looking renderings of Tachi online, and the markings are different from what is on the model. I was all ready to send Michael a lengthy email pointing out his "errors," but then I headed over to YouTube and watched a couple of clips of the ship in action on the show and, sure enough, Michael's markings are correct and the online renderings are incorrect.
