I tried using the magnet thing myself on one of my 'flying model' builds. Be warned- build in a spacer (the bigger the magnets the bigger the spacer required) if you're using the rare earth magnets- they are REALLY strong. On larger models built from thicker card probably ok, but on my small builds the first time I tried to remove model from stand, the inner magnet started to rip straight out through the underside.

Yes Rata, I am with you, the strength of the magnet can be an issue. I have considered this potential issue and I intend to place rubber or cardboard washers between the magnet and the model. This way, the attraction strength will be adjutable at an acceptable level and, in addition, I'll can slip a screwdriver or any similar tool between the washers to separate the stand from the model without ruining it (I hope so …).
