I work on Inventor 2018 on a daily basis (to pay the bills) the sheet metal tool will help in doing paper models BUT, more on the lines of the simple type where very complex shapes are going to be very hard to to model and get to look and assemble as you want it to.

I have tried a few shapes in inventor and it will work but you are spending more time in programming the shapes and glue tabs.

It would be far easier to model a shape and put it into pepakura and do an break out from there with some AutoCAD or Photoshop work afterwards.

This has been one of my main limiting factors with a design that I have completed but it is on the board line of been near impossible to build.
