I promised a WIP on the next subject on this thread- the Thomas Morse S4C Scout.
The kit is one of set of five 1/72 models from Perry's Paper (still available at Ecards for US$4.95) and comprises two Army, two Navy(one of which is an S-5 floatplane that will be part of this thread later on), and a movie star one used in the 1930 movie 'Dawn Patrol'.
Neat little kit with good parts fit, but is a challenge to do in 1/100. Hopefully, the pics will explain better than words but I'll give a brief explain here.
Designer Alberto Perilli gives you the parts and leaves the preferred join tabs decisions up to the builder which probably makes this kit unsuitable for beginners and is the very reason I've sat on it for over a year since buying it.
The kit comes with full cockpit and engine detail. I'm not all that worried about cockpits on small models like this, so I've taken the S&P approach and blacked over the aperture with a fine Sharpie.
There's no such shortcut with the engine however, and it needs to be built as designed. Fiddly for sure but worthwhile in the end. Each teensy cylinder has a separate cylinder head, but as only three heads can actually be seen (at the opening on the cowl bottom), I only did those three.
Tail surfaces, struts and u/c legs are fold-over affairs that have a single lamination between to give rigidity.
Anyway, this is where I'm at with Tommy and like I said, hopefully the photos will tell you everything. Please don't hesitate to ask if you have a question.
I was going to rig this model with with my usual pre-coloured silk thread, but I've been itching to try the MichaelS Plucked Paintbrush technique so that's what I'll do Tommy with. Besides, he won't stop pesterin' me until I do anyway.
