I can correct you on some info here
Richard wanted Plymouth to do the 'Bird in 69 after Dodge came out with the Daytona version of their CHARGER
Or he wanted Chrysler to allow him to change to the Charger
Chrysler said NO to both and Richard drove FORD Torino Cobra's & TALLEDEGA's for the 69 season
He won the very first event at Dover in a Ford
He would return to MoPar and Plymouth in 70 when the Road Runner Suberbird was introduced.
Yes the car was Legal in 71, but without the Hemi!!
Several Daytona's & Superbird's did run during the 71 season
but NO HEMI engined ones were allowed.
Richard would use the newly designed Satellite bodied Road Runner
in 71 and early 72 then switch to the Charger near mid-season
He stayed with Dodge thru the introduction of the Magnum, But would with the GM
in mid 78 with a Monte Carlo
for 79 & 80 he would split the season with the Olds Cutlass & Monte Carlo
He and Kyle also tried the Caprice/Impala a few times for the 80 season
the cars were Downsized for the 81 season After the first race at Riverside Road
course --(Daytona 500 saw the smaller cars mandatory Richard won in a Buick Regal).
