MM Armour Contest - Type 1 Chi-He

The Type 1 Chi-He was a development of the Type 97 Chi-Ha medium tank. The hull was uparmoured and welded rather than riveted. A different turret design was used with a 47mm gun similar to that used in the Chi-Ha Shinhoto.
The Type 1 designation suggests it was designed in 1941 (Showa year 2601) but delays in official acceptance/production process meant the Type 1 wasn't produced until 1943. Most Type 1s were held in reserve for the defence of Japan and there is no record of them being used in action.

The MM model depicts a Type 1 of the 5th Division, IJA, Saitama Prefecture, 1945 (my guess at the Polish caption).

The MM model runs to 8 pages of parts - the printing is fine and accurate - as good as any other current publisher. There are about 5 pages of instructions (in Polish) and build diagrams - the diagrams are very clear and better than many other publishers.

The design is a bit unusual in that many of the hull skin parts are directly laminated to 1mm card so the model doesn't have a frame just a very thick skin.

The designer is Pawel Mistewicz, who I believe, has a considerable reputation for aircraft model design.

Regards,

Charlie
