If there are two inside corners like when cutting out a U shape, or when there are four inside corners like when cutting out a square or rectangle I start in one corner with the tip of the knife at the intersection of two sides and draw the blade towards me. I stop short of the other corner then rotate the page and place the knife tip in the other corner and draw the knife blade towards me again. This gets the tip of the knife right at the intersection of the two sides and prevents over cutting onto the part. The process is repeated for the remaining corners. It also leave a nice crisp cut corner cut out.
