Tip tanks look cool looking!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and theoretically served a good aerodynamically purpose.
However, as far as fighter maneuverability and structurally loading the wings, ( and symmetrical separation when you jettison them ) they were terrible and were eliminated from further designs as aircraft progressed. I think the F-104 was one of the last fighters to use tip tanks.
Better to keep heavy objects close to the center if you can.
