My main hobby is collecting 1:43 diecast and plastic vehicles; but I got into paper modelling to create display backgrounds for them. Using paper and card is cheaper than other media and it has the neat trick of being easy to alter the scale --- lots of modelling is in 0O scale like Kingsway models or nothing stated like the lovely French buildings from Mirontaine (which suddenly stopped trading a few years back).

Speaking of French buildings; does anyone know of card models of a Colonne Morris (the advertising columns) or a Vespasienne (crudely aka a pissoir)?

I do get led astray from the display idea by building cute little dioramas like the French ones from kids' magazines of the Thirties featured on Agence Eureka's Flickr pages; and I've also just got hold of a couple of Fotomo books via Amazon ….
