I've been inside two subs now, I forget the name/class of both of them, one was at the Intrepid Museum in NYC, the other was at the Maritime Museum in Sydney, Australia. The latter was moored right next to the sister ship of an Australian destroyer that was one of the first paper models I ever built.
I have to agree, it's an amazing experience getting inside these subs and finding out just how cramped they are. It's hard to imagine what it would be like stuck in one of these, hundreds of metres below the surface, let alone in battle, under attack from above. It gives you a great deal of appreciation for what their crews must have gone through.
