MFI modified DC-3

This weekend I attended a Charity dinner for Missionary Flights International in Fort Pierce Florida.

The dinner was held in the hanger with one of their Modified DC-3's.
I'm not a major aviation fan, but I know there are many DC-3 fans here so I took a few pictures to share.

Here she is in her splendid glory, wings outstretched over the diners.

This is under her nose, obviously (-=

Her front and real landing gear. She often needs to land on short grass runways, so her landing gear was modified accordingly.

Her engines were replaced for more capacity as well as extra fuel capacity so she can carry more and travel longer. Though her primary missions are to the various Caribbean Islands.

Her tail.

This is her access doors. Both passenger or freight access capacity.

This is the external part of her wing re-enforcements. She often carries max capacity for relief efforts.

And two final shots.

The person talking about her modifications mentioned that her fuselage was extended by 37 inches for the larger engines and extra fuel capacity. I think she was talking about the engine nacelles? But I'm a sailor, so I'm not as familiar with aircraft terms.

But I wanted to share these photos because I know there are some DC-3 fans who keep up with every craft and I thought that this modified DC-3 would be especially interesting.

Cheers,

John Gay
