This is how I've solved the issue at my place, I do the pattern work for my wife's quilts as well and we had issues with printing patterns until I started setting a box in my cad program that's 7" x 10", between that and setting adobe to print "actual size" instead of the default "fit to page" we haven't had any issues since.
