Dear CMDRTED - I know the F-4E that served long years at the IAF and in total shoot down 120 Arab fighters.
As a pure interceptor the F-8 is more nimble and ligther. The F-4 can carry the radar guided sparrow while the F-8 not able. The Phantom had another pair of eyes from the navigator . The Crusader 4 Colt 20 mm guns had a nasty jaming froblem in high g
and almost all the kills were made with Sidewinders. The NAVY phased the F-8 from service in the late 1970's and the RF version until 1987.
The Phantom served in USAF until 1996 and many are in hold with private owners while no Crusader is in a flight status today.
In the French NAVY the Crusader served some 35 years until start of new milenium !!!
