For painting I use acrylics, mostly Tamiya and Pactra. Sometimes if I can't find the paint I want in their charts, I go for Gunze, Vallejo or Mig.
But the most important thing in painting paper models is VARNISH. You always have to varnish the model before painting. If you don't do that, then the disaster is unavoidable.
Like I said many times, the best varnish for paper models is the one that is used for all kind of wooden things, like fences, tables, etc. It makes model incredibly solid and also... water-resistant.

I'd recommend to leave the varnished model to dry for at least 24 hours.

I paint by brush or by airbrush(M-1978 is painted only by brush).
