In the mid 1950's Israel tried to get jets from any nation that was willing to sell any. In thier search they even reached Sweden and tested the Saab 29 Tunnan but Sweden refused to sell. With Canada a deal of 24 Mk 6 Canadian Sabres with Oranda 14 engines was signed but USA blocked it.Only the French were willing to sell the Mystere IV to Israel and 60 were sold to form two big squadrons.Soon daily supersonic bangs were heard over Israel skys. That leave us with the big question - which one of the two is better.
The Sabre was first to fly in 1950 as E model and the Mystere IV in 1952. In a way the Mystere was a touch more advanced - 38 deg swept wing vs 35 deg in the Sabre. In the Mystere main wings and tail are canted lower down aroud 1.5 deg and in the Sabre upwards. The Mystere is 12.9 m long while Sabre 11.4 m. Wing span 11.2 and 11.8 - first win to Sabre. Engines 3.5 ton thrust vs 2.7 ton for Sabre.
Speed 1120 kph vs 1090 for Sabre at low level.
Breaking Sound barrier Mystere in 4 deg dive - Sabre much steeper .
Armament 30 mm canons vs 6x 0.5 guns or 4x20 mm for the Sabre. Ceiling 48000 feet vs 45000 feet for Sabre. Radar range support for guns in both.
The Mystere kills in the IAF includes : 3 mig 15 4 Vampires 4 mig 17 and 1 Hunter.
Of course the Sabre shootdown more planes due to participating in more conflicts as the Formosa
and Indo - Pakistan theaters .
Had the Mystere equiped with Avon engine it was way better than the Sabre.
