A friend of mine have used a laser cutter to remove some of the issues associated with silver paper.

Details including rivets and panel lines are laser cut and not printed (put a layer of office paper on top of the silver surface, or it will be too reflective to cut properly). Any numberings or other colours are jigsawed together using different coloured paper. A much more consistent surface finish can be achieved this way. I will ask my friend for some photos of the build.
