I use a product called EZ-Line. It's sort of an elastic thread, used originally by model railroaders for things like telephone lines. It comes in several colors and thicknesses...I use mainly the fine black...and has just enough 'stretch' to give a nice taut line without adding any real tension that could skew or damage structures. It attaches easily with CA or 'super' type glues.
Also useful for ship rigging. I used it on my USS Maine posted earlier on this forum.
