OK, this one has started off badly and gone downhill at every turn. I tried and tried to get the colors adjusted and balanced and I just made everything worse and worse. I was going to give up on even starting it and simply retract my foolish entry, but then I thought...."Is this truly the way of the steadfast and commited paper modeler?" YES!! I mean NO! I'm going ahead with this abomination regardless! If I got through that !*#&!%#*^@ Lenin Car from the last MM contest, I can get through this one. Understand this, though. The colors are horrible and don't match. They never will; there's just not enough information on the spotty, broken original color to scan well enough. At least on my copy and with my limited abilities (and patience) with recoloring.

This is a good illustration of the battle I've been fighting. I couldn't even get the color blue consistent from one end of the same piece to the other end!

The cockpit is actually fairly detailed for a MM kit of this period. The dials were all uncolored, so I at least got those to look a little better.

Now, the reason that I got started on this one is because I've run into "issues" with the ORP Dzik and FT17 that I'm doing as well. I thought, "Hey, the sub and the tank are new territory for me so I'll retreat to something I know, my happy haunt; WWII era planes. I've gotten used to MM build techniques; this is an older kit and should be simple enough. I know I can't read Polish, but the diagrams will get me through"... there are no diagrams for the bombers cabin. none.

I've put together what pieces I sorted out, but I have a bunch that I can't find a home for yet. I'm hoping that as I build the rest of the model I'll find what goes where.

So here's the thing that's been driving me crazy. The tail end of the fuselage is a completely different color from the rest.
I don't know what I'll do about it (if anything). At this point, this model is a likely candidate for the circular file so I'm not letting it bother me. I may try to airbrush some winter white over the joint to disguise it, or I may just use it as a firestarter in the fireplace!

The main fuselage is done and I have to say that, overall, the fit is typical of MM kits of the day. Not great, but workable. Bulkheads are irregular, some fit, some don't. Skins don't match very well.
It's still an interesting plane and I will finish it... regardless. My apologies for failing so badly at the recolor. I wish this plane had sported some wild camo scheme that I could use to paint over my boo-boos, but there aren't a lot of schemes for the SU-2 that I could find, although this one might be of some help;

Now that I've frustrated myself thoroughly on this one, it's time to return to my confusion on the ORP Dzik and the FT17! Will I get any of them right?????
Chris
PS. Just to top things off, I managed to drop the thing square on its nose, crumpling an almost acceptable cowling....:o
