Stargate Atlantis - Puddle Jumper

SG1 and SGA have been my favorite Sci-Fi distraction over the past couple months and now that I'm a few seasons into SGA I figured it was time for an SGA model. Available from Martin Sanger at Stargate Atlantis: Puddle Jumper - Modellbaubogen this is a nicely detailed 1:72 model of this cool little ship.

The only modifications I've made are to squeeze some of the parts in tighter to fit on a letter-sized page, and to copy off some additional parts for layering rather than just relying on the graphics.

More to come...

ooohh I'm watching this!

I tried this model a couple of weeks ago...was gonna do the double layer thing like you did, but I ran into some problems during dry fitting.
The front and rear panels just don't seem to match up well with the outer hull.
And the base assembly was a challenge for me.

This looks like a fairly simple kit, but with the reduced size
(I reduced it as well to fit on one page easily)
it was a fight to get things to fit...
and in the end I got very frustrated with the model.

The rear section was a disaster, so I ended up cutting it off...literally!

...with the Stargate!!

Anyway, good luck with this one... I can't wait to see it built by someone with better skills!

My Stargate is about 4" in diameter

Hm, strange - I built several of those, and I experienced no fit problems (the model was developed via a CAD program and is very exact).

Maybe a problem with your printer settings, some distortions that shouldn`t be there?

Cutting it off with the stargate was an excellent idea!

Dry fitting indicates that there aren't any real fit problems that I can see. I might have to do a little adjusting and coloring to hide small gaps introduced by my thick layered parts, but it looks like it should go together well.

I like the half-way-through jumper model. I'm going to have to build another so I can try that out myself. (The engines-out version doesn't fit through the gate). I'll also likely use the Pegasus gate instead of the Milkyway gate (teal vs. orange).

Just layering the hull now. Updates soon.

By the way, is that an interior I see through the front window on that model? If so, please - closer pics!

just me having fun with photos...
I created an interior "view" using a couple of TV frames.

...main visible thing is the "heads up" display on the windscreen.
Its really too small to see (and hard to photograph),
but there are two characters sitting behind the display.

I printed the image on photo paper and mounted it behind some clear plastic (cut from a toy package) and then mounted both behind the cut-out opening on the front of the jumper.

Adds a visual effect that takes your eyes away from the defects in my build! lol

Definitely no fit problems.. going together quite nicely. As expected the layering did give me a few small gaps, but in anticipation I was able to color any white that would show so the gaps are barely noticeable under scrutiny.

Starting to look like a jumper now.

A little more layering to do on the hull and undercarriage, then the engine pods.

Jumper One, you have a go.

Got a little distracted by the DGA competition, but I found some time to finish the jumper. It was a fun build even though I finished watching Stargate Atlantis before finishing the build lol. No real issues to speak of, and the layering depth effect is subtle but there - I like it.

Here she is:

Next up, I've designed from scratch something to jump through (needs a few more tweaks and some test building):

The layering really adds to your model. I would say, it actually really makes it stand out!
