Nose Cones

Thank you.
Nose cones.
There is where I'm having the most trouble with a clean roll.
I may have to change to a lighter weight paper.

I found that using a thin "torpedo" shaped "clicker" pen (se the attached pic) works well for shaping those cones or if you can shape a wooden dowel for such also works nicely.

Buck Rogers Thunderfighter build-bic_click_pens.jpg

I hope that this helps.

X-Acto Knife Handle

Thanks again.

I have been using my X-acto knife handle to roll the paper. I think the papaer is too stiff and I need to try #60 paper. I have been using #110 paper.
I'm thinking I can use three sheets of #20 paper? What do you think?

Try 67# vellum bristol, it's the same thickness as 110# index however not as stiff to roll and sure beats trying to laminate 3 sheest of 20# copy paper.

Yea!
That joker is one of the slickest sci-fi fighters out there.
Even though a lot of people aren't really turned on by the the Hatchet Fighter, (Ardala's costumes are another matter entirely) it looks cool too.

Nose Cones

I have bee working on the nose cones using the #110 paper. I'm having a hard time rolling the paper to that narrow of a cone. I've tried using photo paper with the same results. It is the cutouts for the laser guns that are making it hard to stay conical.
I'm gonna take a break for a while and look for some different material to make the nose cones, short of using PNC.

I found that making the nose cones first, then inserting the guns where they belong, works the best for me.

I tried that

Thats what I did, roll first, then cut. They won't hold their shape.

Once you roll the parts, and glue everything, you will need to hold everything in place with tweezers or very thin clamps (hemostats work well for such.) until the glue drys.
