USS Atlantis
Just a quick build I threw together as a break from the Fitzgerald. The USS Atlantis, originally an Estes flying model rocket kit. It's built "straight out of the box", from plans I believe I originally got from JimZ Rocket Plans site.
Sometime I on redoing it, with proper nacelle domes and end pieces, as well as a nose that's not just quickly rolled from scrap paper. Always wanted one of these back when, now I've finally got one! There's also a new, refit version out there now that I'd like to build as well. Someday, maybe. Scott K. |

Awesome! I loved this rocket too back in the day, in the Estes catalog. Never got one.

It was meant too; Estes had the marketing rights at the time to market a flying rocket model of the Enterprise (and the Klingon D-7); the Atantis was their own in-house design but was meant to cash in on the Star trek "aesthetic".

In case anyone else would like to build one, I went looking for the site I got the patterns from. I was wrong, this version wasn't from JimZ (although you can find info on the original here; U.S.S. Atlantis). This one came from this page; Partial Paper Rocket Builds The Rocketry Blog, with several others as well.

Great site, I had no idea! Some of those old rocket kits I wanted more as models than as flying rockets; maybe dreams of the sat can be fulfilled in the present!

And what's best is,going by the length of the nacelles,it scales out to 1/1000. It fits in with both existing paper AND plastic kits.
