Updating Ninjatoes' Danube-Class Runabout
For October's monthly meeting of the IPMS chapter in Orange County, CA, I built Ninjatoes' USS Rubicon. It was a lot of fun to build, and it's so big that assembly was pretty easy. But, me being me, as soon as it was done, I wanted a runabout model that had a more prototypical look so, with Ninjatoes' blessing, I've begun a repaint/redesign of his model and will eventually have all eleven from Deep Space Nine and the Yellowstone from VOY:"Non Sequitur".
So far, I've got the bow section about done, and am now starting work on the center section and wings. These pics are of my finished original and the second test build I did of my revised version. |

Excellent job so far. I've wanted to build the large Runabout for a while, but the watercolor look puts me off.

I will be interested in your work. I think Paragon did one a while back. Ninjatoes has always been such a good sport in supporting the evolution of his work.
The runabout was an interesting modular craft and it would be cool to see a rebuild that rflects the ability to break it down into components as it was intended to be, but never reflected on DS-9. In any event, I look forward to your work. The DC

By the way, will you be adding the sensor/torpedo rollbar?

Yes, DC, I AM planning to design and add a sensor pod/rollbar option. It will be the last bit done, though. You're right about Paragon having done a version of this one as well, but his was a simpler repaint, where he just redrew the original and added a mottled texture. When I'm finished, mine should be pretty close to the AMT plastic version, if not the studio model.

Rubicon
I also built this one a while back as one of my early paper adventures. It is a wonderful build and it can be enhanced tremendously. I originally wanted to do the cockpit but there is a lack of info on the interior. here is a link to my finished model. http://www.papermodelers.com/forum/a...ubicon-067.jpg waiting to see your construction of your updated version.

Do it, do it, do it! I build the runabout ages ago, definitely need to do a rebuild. Looking forward to the redraw/redesign.

Looks WONDERFUL! I have always said, "The more the merrier!", especially in the case of papermodels, you can never have enough!

Well pdmcool, you have my undivided!
Have you any of the plans that show how it seperated? The front section, or cockpit and rear section were held on my the juncture spine. Between them, four mission modules and an access corridor to each module was present, all separating. The cockpit also had emergency engines for escape. The roll bar was another module. The design was logical in every respect and never fully explored on the show. I'll be watching! The DC
