Nice subject Diderick , and it would be a waste too cut up the original, I have the Mon X-3, from the same period, I even think the paper has lost so much strength and quality that it is almost impossible to build the original

Very interesting model! May I ask - which strength had the paper you used for the "skin"? Was it photo paper? It looks glossy on this last picture.

I never use photopaper - this is just regular 160 grams/m2, the heaviest a normal printer will take. The gloss is pobably the flashlight off the camera.

Billy

Not to side-track this thread, but was the x-3 a rocket or the Nasa x-3 plane? If a rocket, was it a fictitious rocket or a true concept for spacecraft? Or am I thinking of an early Maly Modelarz kit?

Thanks, Billy. I guess the craft I'm thinking of was a Maly Modelarz model. I also think that it was printed in foil. I believe that someone built it a few years back (maybe on the Z forum?) but I was curious if it was a purely fictional model created by the publisher.

Back to the model in hand - or rather, in view of the size, in two hands. In spite of a bad head cold I have made some progress. I don't think the designer of this model ever heard of the word 'fit'... it is all very crude. I keep filling large gaps with white glue. The four spokes turned out to be at least a centimeter too long... The solar energy collector is coloured on one side only, so the model will have to be viewed from the top only. The parts are too large to use aquarel paint on them: they would certainly buckle as the paint dried, so I am not going to try.

Diderick

What is the overall diameter?

That's about 38 cms (15 inches).
