For the WWII look, olive drab would look a bit...well...drab! A lot of American bombers from that era, ie, the "Superfortress", were in natural metal - what does everyone think?

The image that comes to my mind is something like this.

classic silver rocket ship 3d max

3 or 4 rocket shaped engines around some sort of core structure. In place of the enterprise dish, perhaps a sphere at the forward end of the central core. The shuttle bay doors at the rear would open in clamshell style, probably from side to side rather then top to bottom, those directions being pretty relative anyway of course. The image in my mind is clear enough that maybe I've actually seen it pictured somewhere.

That's my two cents.

how about the back part of the rocket you posted, with a oval thick sauce on the front, and then a 'greenhouse' bomber nose window in front?
maybe in white and black?

Yeah, that's the idea, but in my mind it was a complete sphere rather than a saucer. I like your idea of leaving the noise sticking out the front and the bomber style windows.

Well, I think we need the saucer section to make it a recognisable "Enterprise" - I grant that the original concept for the "Enterprise" had a sphere - it's now called the "Daedalus" class in Treklore! I'd go for making the upper two nacelles the engines and the lower one some sort of hanger bay - hey, how about the lower nacelle having the "bomber-style" nose and the saucer/sphere having a sort of "bay window" at the front for a bridge, or perhaps a "greenhouse roof" at the top of the saucer/sphere?

I'd advocate an "upside-down" arrangement to your idea, sjsquirrel - to give it the "Trek" look. I think the two nacelles which are warp engines should have the "Bussard collector" nose; but then, if this is to be the "predescessor" ship to the '50s Enterprise, which had 1950s style intakes on its nacelles, then maybe something like the cowlings on a WWII bomber? Humongous big rocket exhausts are a must, in my opinion.

Gosh, I feel like a fake and a fraud here, commenting from the sidelines when I can't design anything myself!
