Back in my prior life of making balsa ukie models, there was a filler material (I think it might have been called microballoons) that consisted of tiny glass balls you mixed with epoxy to form a filler material. They are tiny...less than 1/64 inch diameter. Back in the day you could find it at just about any hobby shop, but I think I bought mine from Sig hobbies (which I'm not sure is even still in business, having moved on to different aspects of the hobby fold). If you can find it, I would recommend trying mixing them with clear silicon sealant or acrylic resin to see if you can get your bubble effect.

im thinking of casing sand or salt in clay, maybe even sugar, and then washing it out and puring in hot clear glue to make a bubbly sheet

I ran across this image of silver-coated microbeads. If this doesn't look like bubbles in water, I don't know what will. I'm glad to see that they are still around. Mixed with epoxy, they made the very best wing fillets you can ever hope to get.

I mixed paper {cuttings and dust} with pva glue to make a smooth paper pulp {filler} added some blue coloured powder paint to the mix and applied it to the front of Seaview. I am currently re-commencing work on the 1:33 scale B-52

yeah,
i thought of some grey thick spackling paint too, but i like to keep the paper model as original as i can, for some reason, so i mod'd garys model with my own nose for the next time i build it. |

Try a local craft store like Michaels or AC Moore. Of course if there's a beading store in your town that's the best place.
