Oberthon class-uss grissom
After my last project USS Reliant in 1/3000 i promised myself that my next project would be a bigger ship but as soon as i found this kit i couldn't resist the challenge so i grabed my tweezers and i jumped into it.The scale is again 1/3000 and i use 120gr paper.Up to the point you see in the photo everything is edge glued except of the ports. The alternations i did to the kit are the bridge that is not dome shaped(it was the point that i lost my patience and stopped for today) although in such small scale it is not a problem for me and the three ports (?) around the lower rim that are not open but i cut the appropriate parts of the pieces and glued them on position making new gluing tabs behind them.
the photo is taken with my web camera to achieve a good focus (much better than my mobile phone's.

Isn't the Grissom an Oberth class ship / Or maybe I misread the name ? ANyway, I'd put one together a few years ago, and had a blast with the build. Hope you enjoy it too.

Yes, it is an Oberth class science vessel. They all look... weird compared to Cruisers and escorts.

My apologies for that <<oberthon>> in yhe title i wish i could edit this but it's too late now.I hope your notices and corrections will not stop at the title but will continue on the model itself helping me making a better one.Later this evening i will try to correct the bridge to a more domed shape.

Trick with that is Burnishing. Get hold of something metal with a rounded end (small spoon or something) press the curve to the middle of the paper and rub.

Thanks SUSHIBONES for the trick.Actually i used a slightly different method.I covered the curved end of a pen cover with a piece of 80gr paper and pressed it to reduce the wrincles on it as much as possible. Then i applied glue and positioned the necessery piece on it.I pressed on it and the effect achived.
After this it was the time of the next subassebly the front lower end of the pod.Althou i paid attention for a smooth assebly what you see in the photo is the best i could do.After assebly i applied a tiny amount of glue on the joints of the curved pieces to soften the edges and with my scoring tool i wiped them trying to improve the fitting.I didn't have much success.Nevertheless in real life it looks much better.

The bridge dome looks great. However I think you need to spend more time 'curving' your pieces to get them to match up a little better. I use a metal rod... best tool eva! A combination of glue strips and edge glueing work well for these sought of things I find.

I did curved them using my scoring tool.I thought using paper strips inside the parts but in such small room.....There are many more curved parts in this kit to do so though!
