That will be interesting. I think the one with Kurt Russell was the best. The recent one was a rehash of the version even though it was supposed to be a prequel.

I don't know the movie, but I certainly like the look of the ship.
And yes, it's another neat design I'd like to build. As to movies that end up being "heroine remakes", well, it's as I said to a friend in the video store when "Tombraider" came out on DVD, and he asked if I intended seeing it. I replied: "Why would I? After all, it's just Indiana Jones in a sportsbra." Which pretty much sums up that entire movie rehash trend. Kind and Respectful Regards my friends, Uyraell.

I've never seen anything on that ship but the stabilizer sticking up out of the ice. I've never even seen a drawing of the whole ship.

there were collector pages made a few years back from studio drawings and the models original designs.
i think they were called watch the skies. i have a few pages i can post them, but it might be violating the copyrights; i havent found anything on them since. |

Thanks muchly for the design of one of the SF great movies however, whilst that may have been the initial design, somewhere between the design and the actual movie something went missing.
The design has three fins yet only one fin is shown in the movie crash site. When the earthmen fan out to define the shape they comment it's deeper over here etc meaning the spacecraft is on an angle so which fin is sticking through the ice and why are'nt more than one showing if your drawings were the design used? When they fan out the fin showing is in the centre of the saucer whereas there should be two fins showing based on the design as presented. Of course why there would be 3 fins on a spacecraft is anyone's guess, maybe it was based on the Lockheed Super Constellation tail? Just some thoughts. |

thats what it looks like in the movie you are correct,
i was going on the only studio model drawing or concept i could find, however, i was looking at a pic of the john carpenter movie's saucer and think that it might be fun to make a simple model of also. i was wondering , not trying to be snide, just trying to get inside a modeller/fan's mind about this, what would you have left off according to the shcematic i found, to be more realistic for the movie, also if you would scrap the entire drawing, what do you think it would have looked like, and could you please post an image here of your version? jim |
