Buck Rogers Thunderfighter build
I started this build last night. I'm running into some issues with the directions, which are very good but leave a few questions.
I'm off this week and I hope to complete this build quickly. There are four transitions on the engine pods. I'll use the base part number for identification. Parts 144,152,160 & 168 should have a final designation such as A,B,C,D for placement on parts 1 & 6. Also, on part 33, part 44 is placed how? What does it do? Can anyone help who has built this model? Daniel Here is the link for download. http://www.paperaviation.de/ |

This on has to be on of my more favorite models to build. There is so much you can do with it. I enjoyed building it.
I just sent you a PM with my email address. Send me to photos of everything marked as to what assembly it is and I will connect the dots for you. You are doing a good job so far. Quote:

Build
I was not planning on doing a build thread with this model but I guess thats what it is turning into.
Once I figured out how to open up the files and print them, there was no turning back now. My frist printing came out on a half page, too small. Next came the full page of parts but still not centered. Good enough for me but still too small. I use these pages for reference and guidance. Finally I figured out I could enlarge the pages by printing them on two sheets and printing in landscape. The only problem is some of the parts became divided because of where they were located on the sheet. If I rotated the printing 180 degrees most of the divided parts printed completely. Now I have a model that is big enough for my fat little fingers to handle. I made a few mistakes so far but I think I can work around them. One mistake is I glued on the forward bottom hull before glueing the gnarly fiddley bit thats sits right on the middle of the motors. It looks like a transition or an air intake. Also, there is another semi-round part forward of that I should have attached before glueing on the forward bottom hull. That would be pic #1. The third pic shows the motor/engine nozzels. What a P-I-T-A! That little part took most of the night just cutting and glueing and I'm still not finished. Pic #4 give you an idea of how much bigger I printed the model. To the right of the blue ruler is the original size. |

Looking good, and I'm glad that you found a work around...
This is one of those models that I would eventually like to get around to building. On a side note, I'd probably wind up doing two iterations... One as the original Buck Rogers, the other as a repaint in BSG Battle Colors as it was originally imagined by Ralph McQuarrie. |

Looks good so far. I do see where you made the misstake. You can fix it, but you have to use a thin ruler to push down the glue tabs in place.
As for size, I like the bigger (A-3) size as well. You can go to Kinko's and have them print it out on bigger cardstock for you. I have built both sizes, and both worked out for me quite well. Keep up the good work. Just remember though, take your time with it.
