Enterprise 1701 By Uhu02 and Makino
After doing a couple of character builds, Spider Man and Deadpool, I've decided to try something completely different. As I suspect with a lot of paper modelers, I have wanted to try one of the models by Uhu02 and as I'm a bit of a Star Trek fan, I decided to give the Enterprise 1701 a go.
I loved the model when I first saw it and the artwork on it is superb. I figured it would be a relatively easy build after doing characters but soon realised that might not be the case once I started. These first photos show the sheets printed out and the parts of the lower side of the saucer section cut out. This model has LOADS of tabs and some of the pieces are incredibly small, for example on picture 3 in the middle, that strip is only about a millimetre wide and has to be glued edge on around the rim of one of the circular pieces. |

Looking good! Keep it up. I've got this one on my build list too, (in 1:1700 of course), so this will be great as a reference later.

1:1700 you're crazy (meant in the nicest possible way). This is at 1:1000 and some of the parts are a so small they're a nightmare!

It looks like you are off to a really good start.
Its looks like a very clean build. Keep up the GREAT work.

Any Advice
Well the build is still progressing nicely and I should have some pictures to post later of the top half of the saucer section.
I was after a bit of advice from those familiar with doing this type of model. What would be the best approach for attaching the top part of the saucer to the bottom part? I imagine it's just a case of doing a few tabs at a time but I'm looking for any tips to help with this bit |

Yea, just a couple tabs at a time, and use a toothpick or something to get the glue in the gap between the part and the tab so that you don't stretch and rip the joint open as you try to get glue in there.
Also, looking at the way the bottom half is shaped and how the tabs look like they'll attach to the upper hull section, I would add one more support ring, that will sit under the tabs, so that when you press down from the upper section, there will be something to support the tabs and get a good solid surface to connect to. Otherwise, when you put the top down onto the tab, the tab will just tend to fall into the empty hull. Just a thought.

Thanks for the tip about the support ring, sounds a good idea.
I use some small cable ties for applying the glue, being plastic I can trim them to size and they last for ever |

I've got the upper part of the saucer section finished now and got it glued to the bottom part, phew!
There were some small parts and again LOADS of tabs. To stick the top to the bottom, I just went straight in and did just a few tabs at a time. The tabs had enough spring so that light pressure would stick them ok, it was really fiddly but through patience and perseverance I got it done and am pleased with the result. On to the main body section now. |
