MIG 31 "Firefox" by Janx

After some time searching and deliberating, I decided for my first build that I'd post here would be the fictional MIG 31 Firefox that I got from here, uploaded by Janx. For now, I'm just going to go at it "as is" and most likely attempt a larger version after I get this one done and a feel for the kit.

The first thing you will notice is that the coloring my look odd, that is because my color cartidge is out at the moment and I had to settle for printing the whole thing in 256 color greyscale, which seems to not be all that bad, considering the craft was to be "stealth" and is almost entirely black anyway.(Except the 2 red stars on the tail fins.)

My next post will be the beginning of the project with pics.

The beginning

Once I got the parts printed and read the instructions several times, it was time to start cutting and glueing. In the first image you'll note the sliding clamp holding the wrap-around strip to the bulkhead piece, these clamps are great for this, btw. There is little to no actual pressure on the piece, only just enough to hold the strip to the edge of the piece within.

Also, there is the other pic, showing a small "gang"of clamps holding the surfaces of the canopy in place while it dries.

Thanks Rhaven. I must admit, I feel a tad intimidated by some of the work I've seen here, but I'll try my best! :D

Great start - i use those spring clamps quite alot, very good for most of the assemblies in these models. Look forward to seeing this come together.

There is no need to feel intimidated in posting your work. It is a good way to learn and get advice and tips from others. Not only that, but the techniques that you use in building your models may be a little different then others would use, and may inspire others to try the same.
An old mentor once told me, "Nothing ventured is nothing gained."
So always show off your work.

BTW, both wooden and plastic clothing pins make GREAT claps as well.

@whulsey I got lucky with those. I found them several years ago at an indoor flea market, ended up with 6 of them for about a dollar each. As I said in that post, they not only clamp flat areas really tight, but with the ratcheting action of it, it can be closed just enough to keep some things in position until dry.
