Shunichi Makino's A-Wing

I have started building the A-Wing model by Shunich Makino on the weekend. The main hull parts went together so fast, that I forgot to take pics of every step.

So here is where I stand now! I really like the stand included and the way the unfold is designed to form the hull shape.

Very nice. I need to go back and build some of his models, but I'm afraid that if I got started, I would want to build them all

Haha :-) I think I might try the AT-AT one day and I would love for him to make an X-Wing and Y-Wing (hoping it would be a bit easier to build than one one I am working on currently)

Next are the engines! I never had a look at the original model in detail so I was surprised how interesting the shapes of the engine tubes are. Not just straight boring tubes but with a little bend and asymmetrical shape.

Not much left. The "wings" on the engines and then the cockpit section to be finished.

After losing the old computer, I went to look up the SF Papercraft on this one, and I only had three of the models on this one. When I went to rebuild my library, I was surprised at how many models have been updated. He's designed quite a collection

Made a little progress on the A-Wing and added the final pieces to the engine sections in the back.

I found that the back rings of the engine are not 100% aligned with the main engine parts. Not sure how to do that better. Maybe next time glue the to the vertical wing parts first and then to the main assembly. But the instructions said otherwise. Another idea I have now is to make some fitting tubes and use them to make sure the rings are aligned better.

But in any case, I still like the model as you only notice when looking real close.

Only part missing is the cockpit!

Finally found some time again to get a little progress done. This time there are more details in the cockpit and the back ridge behind the cockpit section.

If I would build this model again, I would probably add more detail in the cockpit by doubling up the small buttons etc and try to mold my own transparent glass section.

For now I am happy with the current version and look forward to completing the missing cockpit cover and the side turrets!

Just realized today that I forgot to update here that I finished the build during x-mas holidays :-)

The cockpit cover is just placed (not glued) on the model as I want to try to make a see-through version one day. The interior is too nice to hide away with this version.

Makes we want to go back and make a double sized build of Shunichi's Millenium Falcon ... but have to find the time first to complete my X-Wing first Too much (papercraft) work these days!
