This model is kind of my own take on an emperial star destroyer. Everytime I try to unfold it it just does not look right.

Are you just sharing that, or asking for input? If you would like input we need more info, such as what doesn't look right, what were you expecting vs what you got, etc.

You're off to a great start there so keep at it.

OK, this is totally meant to be constructive so don't take offense. 1) The main bridge deck is not properly proportioned to the main body. 2) The pods on either side are not correct proportionally to the bridge deck, nor the main body.

This is just a suggestion, but it might be a good idea to get some blueprints, or other references, or if possible a lot of screen grabs from various angles and study the model in depth first. At that point I would say to get the main body levels and thickness accurate first and the build from your base.
