One question concerning the size: How big is the model supposed to be? It would be great if you could make a detailed 17' / 44 cm long model, too.

As for the texture, D-Whale is correct. Use Gimp; with it you could add some weathering, too. It is the only way to achieve a realistic look. I'm using it on my latest project, a new Colonial Viper Mk. I. Here are some links:

Battlestar Galactica: Colonial Viper Mk. I Eigenbau (Papier)

(And yes, I know I should have started a similar thread here, too, but I'm so busy at the moment that I don't have the time for that!!! I'm so sorry!!!)

I've thought about something in between the Zousho's Defiant and the Ninjatoes D.. perhaps about 20 cm long? Give or take couple of centimetres. I might install Gimp indeed.. things are looking pretty nice with the model, so why not give it a proper texturing, I guess.

That CG model is very accurate.. even more so than the CG model of the D used in the DS9 itself! And as I've noticed there has been at least two, maybe three different models in the series and each of them somewhat different in details. I've been using the Cydonia 6 Ink blueprints of the Defiant, probably best. And those loads of pics of the filming model at the st-bilder.de

Do you remember the very first CG Defiant? It looked rather weird, had almost no detail and the nose and the engines were so wrong.

But I'd love to have a bigger D... (sigh!)

I do remember that.. the beginning of the CGI era :D and indeed bigger would be better but hang on now :D

Strewth! I'm having major headache with the main structure underside Everything else is going smooth indeed, but the underside shapes are really a challenge. (marked red in the picture)

Right! Here you can see the trouble area on my test-build.. as you can see it took a lot of glue'n'effort to make it work :D At least i got it pretty straight.. as you see on the horizontal pics. I also tried this monster with the beta nacelles and it looked like it's going to work!

Now I'm going to refit some of the parts and we'll see what'll happen.

Partial build. In this test-build i'm mainly concentrating on the parts that are bit more difficult.
