SHADO UFO Interceptor 1/12 by UHU
My first post on this forum is about the UFO Interceptor provided by UHU02.
The original 1/48 scale seemed a bit small for my taste so I upscaled it to 1/12. Enlarging a model by four times, of course also will multiply the little inaccuracies by four, but I still think it was worth while. I had to strengthen the structure and sometimes to use some tricks to make all more durable. Hope you all like it. Many thanks to UHU02 for this fantastic model! |

Yeah, Baby!!! I was planning on boosting my one up to 1/32 (ain't paper models so flexible?) but 1/12? Awesome...will be watching and learning from this build

Thanks for your comments.
As you can see on the pics on my first post, I made the steering column out of plastic rod and I had to stabilize the main body construction by adding cardboard pieces between the ribs. To enhance the look of the seat, I cut out the seat belts and added them separately. Of course I had to struggle a bit with some small inaccuracies - in my case they were 4 times bigger because of my upscaling a 1/48 scale model. I used some semi matt photo paper which is quite thick and not really easy to bend but gives this beautiful shine on the model. On the pics you can see the fuselage with the strengthened (cardboard) wing/leg base. This will be covered later with the wings and the shock absorber form the landing legs. I finished the bomb before completing the nose of the interceptor, because I wanted to be able to place it perfectly. To achieve this, I added a plastic tube which just had the right size. Of course you could also make the tube out of paper or thick paper. I just wanted it to be somewhat stronger. |

Using semi matt photo paper also had some disadvantages: I could not use cello tape to fix parts temporarily because removing the cello tape, after the glue had cured, damaged the photo paper. So my solution was to use post-its to fix those parts that needed it.

Beautiful bird getting a great build.
Using the Post-It notes is a smart idea. Never though of that, thanks! Learned something valuable. Joe

I am amazed by the print quality on the over-sized craft. You stated you are using semi matte photo paper, but what printer are you using? It is coming out very well.
