Discovery and the importance of context

I started Uhu's Discovery in 2009, made a bunch of paper hex nuts and put them on a dowel, and then just burned out. The unfinished work mocked me from my model room, so a couple months ago I vowed to get this done in time for the Wonderfest model show in Louisville. Even one day before the show, I wasn't sure I'd make it.

As you can see, i was very happy to be finished. However, at the show it looked different than it had on my kitchen table.

Note that the Sulaco behind is based on Jan Rukr's studio scale cardmodel, but this one was built largely from rigid foam, faced with sheet styrene.

Great work!! Looks pretty fine on the kitchen table and even better 'in company'...

Your happiness at finishing just bubbles over. You're right - context makes all the difference. Great model though, in or out of context!

I think it looks great myself. I've been wanting to build Discovery, but I think the wife would find a "better use of my time" (her words), I barely away with a 1:96 Saturn V.

Nice work Dave. It gives me the incentive to get my butt in gear and finish my Discovery. I only have the command sphere and the antennae array to go .....
