Variation on a Chickenhawk....

Decided to take another stab at one of Marcos Hidalgo's UD12 Chickenhawks. I take if they are from sci-fi gaming world, but I just think they look cool. I decided to scratchbuild a version capable of carrying a cargo pod, ala the Skycrane helicopter or the Eagle from Space:1999.

I used Marcos' "Panoc Air Superiority" version as the starting point, modifying the nose section, the mid-fuselage and the rear section. I also shortened the ECM pod on the top of the fuselage. The engines were made to swivel.

For the rear fuselage, I cut off the lower rear section, getting rid of the loading ramp, and built a smaller structure. I figured if it is carrying a cargo pod, there's no need for a loading ramp. For the mid-fuselage, I cut it in half lengthwise, then scratchbuilt an interior to the cargo bay.

I was going to leave off the appliqué panel detail just to keep things simple, but decided to add it because a) it looks cool and b) it hides some modeling sins.

I was going to scratchbuild a cargo pod, but in looking around Marcos' website, I found several pods he's designed for gaming an miniatures, and one of his "IKUBE" pods looked perfect. It was too big to fit in the cargo bay, though, so I copied it at 86 percent to get it to fit. I had to scratchbuild a floor and I added some other details.

Agreed on the above. Always liked this kit, very unique.

Your mod(s) has got me wondering (again) about a conversion to a similar setup as to the V-44 Quadrotor.

Thanks for the kind words. It is a well-designed model and a fun build.

Marcus mentioned to me in an email that some builders have kit-bashed four-engine versions. It'd be cool to see one, but I'll leave it to someone else to build one....

That is absolutely fantastic. I've never played Infinity, but it sure has led to many fine models, and even better kitbashes
