Startrek Space Dock with Refit 1/1700 scale
Good evening.
For a new project I am building Dave's Space Dock with the 1/1700 Enterprise Refit model by Diego Cortes. The plan is to build this as a shadow box diorama. The Space Dock. The Refit. I'm starting with the Space Dock first, as it is the most labour intensive. First thing was to import the frame into Photoshop to clone the frame colour and create a sheet of this colour onto 110lb card, to be laminated to the back of the frame sheets. Then to start the task of cutting out all of the internal blank areas. This is going to take a while. With the main frame complete, it's time to start onto the side panels. This is where I am at, at this moment, as my little pile of cutouts grows. Thank you for following. Comments and questions welcome. Jim |

How long has it taken you to get this far? It is repetitive, probably boring by now, work but you are doing an excellent job. Keep at it. I have it on excellent authority that this, like all repetitive jobs, does come to an end.
Oh, right. To which Dave are you referring at the beginning of your post? AirDave? Edit - Never mind, just answered my own question.

yeah....this is my torture project!
LOL it was a lot of fun cutting out all those bits. some help here (if you need it Jim): Working on this new project......Enterprise Spacedock ... Jim...just thinking...you know how when you laminate two sheets, and then roll or fold them...and the inner layer shifts because it has to roll tighter? Will that work with this thin framework pattern? Originally I designed it to be only one layer...and you colour the backside of the one sheet. Just a heads up.

Hi Elliott and thank you.
At my pace this is about 2 1/2 weeks work. I do it in short spurts, that way it doesn't become overwhelming. Dave, I'm going to be clamping this between a wood base and a metal edge, like a sheet metal brake, and fold with a wide blade. We'll see how that goes. It's only a 45deg fold. A full 90 could be problematic. Thank you Dave. Jim |

I saw this over on SMA as well. I will, as always, look forward to you build. You have a lot of patience cutting all that framing.
