uhu02 JJ-Verse Enterprise Build

Hello all!

Semi-lurker here, finally posting a build thread here for the fun of it!

I had done small, not too complicated builds before but decided to tackle uhu02 JJ-Verse Enterprise as my next project -- and on top of that, I decided to scale it up!

I've spent ages on it so far, having to cut and rebuild pieces -- I'm really picky about my own work!

And just when things were going well -- this happened. Oops.

In case you can't tell, as I was attaching the top of the saucer section, I got to the very last few tabs and found that the section didn't sit flush, resulting in sort of a "Duck Bill" type effect and I had to scrap months of part time work and the entire saucer section.

So I started from scratch! Gah!

I feel like I really upped my quality tho, this second time around.

I also tweaked some of the pieces before I reprinted them, based on the experiences I had so far and my trouble spots.

Plus I built the saucer section in a different sequence, trying to avoid the mistakes I had the first time.

Almost done with the saucer section and I hope to post more pictures as I continue!

Ouch!, that hurts.
A technique I use sometimes when glueing parts like that saucer section is to glue single tabs on opposite sides of the structure. Kind of like tack welding around a perimeter or along a long seam, or like tightening nuts and bolts in a cross pattern. Glue two tabs at opposite sides then glue two tabs 90 degrees from those tabs and continue splitting the angle between tabs working in a cross pattern. It seems to help in keeping graphics aligned and showing if the parts are indeed of different sizes at an early stage.

Yeah, I've tried that too on some other pieces!

For whatever reason I didn't do it on this piece, or... something.

Happy about how the rebuild is coming along.

Looks like you scaled it up quite a bit. How much did you enlarge it?

About 140%.

Went from Letter sized to Tabloid Extra (12x18.)

I have access to a very cheap high quality laser printer so it's cheap to enlarge.

Sometimes I have no clue how anyone would get these built at the smaller sizes -- tiny pieces!

Hey, I've only built two of Uhu02's models and I enlarged them. And they were a couple of his easiest models. On the other hand, with many models I reduce them. They take up less space and the viewer has to look really close to see my glaring errors.

You are doing a nice job. Great to see another Enterprise take flight. One main trick I use a lot is to glue flat pieces, especially any part of the saucer section, to 1mm chipboard to keep things stiff and flat. It really helps keep saucers level. Can't wait to see more!

Yeah, I was thinking about doing something like that.

Sigh, I tried to be "smart" and build the saucer in a different sequence then in the instructions becuase of the trouble I had previously, but now I've sort of put myself into a tougher spot trying to get the bottom and tops halfs together.
